Children’s Swimming Lessons are Returning – October 2020

Harbour Way is pleased to confirm that children’s swimming lessons will be available from Tuesday 6th October. Lessons will continue for a ten week “term”, with the final lesson on Tuesday 15th December.

The Club is delighted to have secured the services of Jane Viljoen, a swimming coach known previously to the Directors, who will be re-commencing the Club’s children swimming programme.

Lessons will, initially, take place on Tuesday afternoons (3.30 pm – 6.30 pm) with provision to include Thursdays at similar times if demand exists. Lessons will cost £80 (10 x half hour lessons) and allowance will be made for 10 minutes at the end of each lesson for children and parents to quickly depart to the showers/changing room. Children should be showered and changed within twenty minutes of a class finish, so as to vacate the changing rooms for the next class. Parents are requested to assist with this process. Children arriving for a lesson should not use the changing rooms but arrive in suitable attire to start the lesson.

Jane will be assessing each child’s current abilities on Tuesday 15th, Thursday 17th and Tuesday 22nd September, with a view to placing children in classes relevant to both age and ability. Please note that class sizes are reduced to accommodate Covid 19 restrictions and lessons are only available to Child members.

To make an appointment to have your child assessed, at no cost, please contact Jane on either:

A LITTLE ABOUT JANE….

“Swimming is a huge passion of mine and one that I enjoy sharing with others through teaching. Growing up in South Africa, learning to swim from a young age I progressed into competitive swimming for several years representing my province.

I moved to the UK with my family and continued my competitive swimming career, my biggest achievements were being chosen to represent the England South Swim Team on 3 occasions, taking part in the European Championships held in France and twice in Portugal.  I was, also, fortunate enough to be invited to the 2000 Olympic Trials too which has been the highlight of my swimming career.

I’ve been a qualified swimming instructor for over 10 years, teaching babies, children and adults of all abilities, I’ve taught for various swim schools in London and Surrey and even taught at a kids’ Camp in Massachusetts one Summer which was an amazing experience.

I have helped run and develop swim schools previously and most recently built and developed my own swim school in Littlehampton which we have since sold.

I absolutely love seeing swimmers progress and achieve their swimming goals and I am looking forward to teaching at Harbour Way Country Club and helping more children/adults reach their potential and learn the lifesaving skill that swimming is”.

Qualifications: ASA Level 1 and Level 2 swimming instructor.
